HANGWANI MAKWARELA
Hangwani Makwarela is a mechanical engineer (University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg) who is registered as a professional engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA, reg. no. 20000252).
He has over 28 years of post-graduate experience, which spans a variety of industries in companies that comprise SCAW Metals, Crown Cork, Hillside Aluminium (now BHP-Billiton), Eskom Generation, Umgeni Water and Amatola Water.
He also holds a Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) – Plant Engineering and Occupational Health and Safety; as well as a Masters degree in Business Administration.
He had previously served as a member of Council and as member of the Professional Advisory Committee (Mechanical) at the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA). He continues to serve at ECSA, mainly as a team member or leader on university programmes’ accreditation visits.
Amongst voluntary associations, he is a registered as a fellow and is serving as a council member at the South African Institution of Mechanical Engineering (SAIMechE), He is also registered as a fellow with the South Academy of Engineering.
